Studio Lighting Can't Post

I just found out that the studio lighting I left at karens has a market/replacement value of about $1200 -- nearly 2x what I paid for it.

OUCH!

I've heard a lot about the Alien Bees units, and looking at their site, for about the same money, or just a bit more, I could get "effectively" 4x the light output, individual units, and a bunch of stuff. Or just the lighting heads for 2/3rds that.

Anyone have other suggestions, or experiences with various strobes?

The "durability" and/or long-term high-demand use of them is not important (eg: speedotron black vs brown, and 800 ws is more than enough for what I do, I couldn't tone-down the 2400ws unit enough for some of the shots....

In our current work, the 400ws unit at karens with the extra head provide ample (more than enough) output, and we are not on full power.

I figure a set of 800ws heads, would provide more than enough lighting for anything planned, and being separated with their own power packs, (not a shared unit) they would be able to be split up and used separately too.

Other strobe-light type heads are far more expensive... and I'm wondering if the Alien Bees are just undercutting with low overhead and modern tooling, or if there is a real quality/performance difference. Hard to tell from the other forums I've been reading.
